Visit England 3 Star The 400-year-old Ship Inn stands in the centre of this delightful fishing village. The popular bar, with low-beamed ceilings, flagstone floors and a strong nautical feel, offers a great range St Austell Brewery's real ales, lager and wines. There's splendid choice of locally sourced home cooked dishes on the menu, as well as daily, changing, blackboard specials. You will find fresh fish, locally landed at Mevagissey harbour, on the menu almost daily - weather permitting.
The Ship at Mevagissey is one of Cornwall's most famous inns with a cult following from around the world, even as far away as Australia, attracted by its genuine unspoilt charm. Mevagissey is on the south Cornish coast at the gateway to the Roseland Peninsula. Nearby are the Lost Gardens of Heligan - restored to their former Victorian glory. The nearest town, St Austell, has a wide range of shops, a 4-screen Cinema, Recreation Centre etc. And within a few miles, there is the major attraction - the Eden Project. Further along the coast, close to St Austell, is the Georgian harbour of Charlestown, with its square-rigged old sailing ships. This is also a great place to make a base for touring all of Cornwall, nowhere is more than an hour or so's drive.
This traditional Cornish Inn has 5 en suite rooms; 2 Double, 1 Twin, 1 Family(2+1), 1 Family(2+2). All rooms have Colour Television, Tea & Coffee making facilities and alarm clock radio. All rooms have en suite showers, except the smaller family room which has a bath with shower over.
As the pub is the very centre of this olde worlde village, it has no car park. We would suggest that you use the first car park on the left hand side (Willow Car park) at the bottom of the hill, as you enter the village. The rate is approx £3 - £4.50 per 24 hours (depending upon the season). The car park is just a 4-minute walk to the Ship.
(As an alternative, there is a Short Stay car park, slightly closer, but it does have an overnight fee and then another, daytime, fee that starts at 9.00am)
The inn is always full of colour and, in the Winter, is often host to local musicians and players. The Ship is a real old Cornish pub that's always a pleasure to stay in. |
